After months of anticipation, version 7 of Mortal Kombat Online (formaly known as MK5.ORG) has been released tonight.
The MKO Staff has been working hard for months to realize this release; including me: I had been assigned as head markup and visual design at the start. At some point during the project, they assigned somebody else for the job. (Not that it wasn't going well; they were just more familiar with the other designer.) I didn't design the released version, but I clearly had an impact on it.
The biggest impact being the use of webstandards: the (fairly semantic) markup is XHTML1.1 (though it currently won't validate by a long shot, and it served as text/html); the design is heavily CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) based; and images are mainly PNG (Portable Network Graphics) with Alpha Layers. They even adopted my suggestion to use Dean Edwards' IE7, and they enhanced the RSS (RDF (Resource Description Framework) Site Summary) feed and made it easier to find (

Unfortunately it's not one to add to my personal portfolio, but I guess I did score one for the webstandards evangelism.
From all the changes that have been made (which are quite a few), the use of webstandards is probably the least apparent to the gross of the users, though. Some of the great new features include:
